components of an excellent weekend

Let's just talk about how fabulous this weekend was.

Starting with Thursday night, Mary Poppins. Okay, that was great. Greater than I ever would've expected. We'll go with amazing. Also, I don't think anyone has more fun attending the theatre than I do when I go with Gramma Suz and Cuz PJ. I know people think we're crazy, but we just don't care. Throw in a little Nick and a jolly holiday with our friend Sherry and it equals one excellent night.

Friday night was girls night with Mom and Sarah while the boys were on a campout. A little business dinner at Zupa's and crafts for relief society. Sometimes we're just a little hilarious. After we took Sarah home, we headed over to Bowmans, just for fun? Of course we had to get some donuts, and our friend Ashley gave them to us for free! Ashley, my mom's been talking about you all weekend. She's in love. Rock on.
Next came a party for one very fabulous Becca Rose. While great times were had, I concluded that I probably ought to find some college friends. But. Good times. Heidi and Becca happen to be two of my very favorite friends. Nice little reunification (reunion of best friends).

Saturday brought Bowmans much too early in the morning, but it was nice to have time for a long, much needed nap during the afternoon. That night, we got to go to the stake center to watch the Relief Society session of General Conference. Was that not the most excellent thing ever?? Dear President Uchtdorf, thank you for always saying the most perfect things. You are my favorite (and my grandmother finds you attractive, but no one really needs to know that...).

Today was just grand. I got over 8 hours of sleep. When does that happen? Never.
I got to go to Dalton Facer's farewell, where I saw many more friends and favorite people. Also, you've never experienced a great time in sacrament meeting until you've sat with Becca. Last time, we sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic...with our special words :) Today, we used her iTouch and scrolled around on the page. Also, Becca is an excellent singer. Her tenor + my alto = beautiful hymns.

My dad has been called as our new bishop. I am so excited for him. I think it says a lot about him and I'm really lucky to have such an awesome dad. My mom is awesome too, even if she said that her children are "special." (I turned back to Kevin and said "What the crap does that mean??" "She was talking about Nick." That makes sense :D )

I ended my weekend by talking with my best friend over Skype for an hour and a half. So thankful for modern technology! I really, really, REALLY miss my friends but having things like this (and a lot of texting and letter writing) makes it feel like we aren't so far away

Didn't I say it was an excellent weekend? Excellent indeed. And next weekend? Even better! Who doesn't love conference? I'm excited.

One last question....Sarah Palin, do you read my blog? Just wondering...

College. This is how it is.

In case you wondered what my life has been like for the past four weeks, this is for you.

But mostly, it's for Micaille. She told me I should post something on my blog. So here I am.

Where I actually am is work...don't tell my boss. I work for Doug Thatcher at Allstate, just answering phones, booking appointments, mailing letters and the like. I do quite enjoy it! I also occasionally finish my work early, he occasionally leaves early, and I just get to chill out in the office until 5 o'clock. This is when I catch up on blog-reading and social networking. In case you wondered. Anyway, I like it. I'd so rather sit in an office for 3 hours a day than stand on a purple line for 6 hours a day. I do still work at Bowmans, just much less than I have in the past. I'm there Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 to 11, as well as Saturdays. Feel free to grocery shop accordingly :)

I don't care much for labels, but I guess you could say I'm too school for cool...if you catch my drift. 15 hours of classes...6 hours of institute...you can guess where I spend a lot of my time (and the answer isn't Bowmans this time! Yay!). Three cheers for the Weebs. Woop. I guess it's fun? It still kills me to look at pictures of everyone partying with their roomies and hanging out on campus...I think I talk to about 5 people a day. Maybe 6 or 7, but only if I'm feeling adventurous. It isn't that I don't enjoy talking...because I really do. People just don't talk to each other up there! It's so weird! I did see four Japanese girls walking and laughing together yesterday...I was really jealous. I'm working on finding some buddies...it's just hard when everyone is so freakin anti-social!

So if it's alright with you...I like to ask permission because I'm polite like that...I'm going to tell you one thing (or maybe more...we'll see) about each class.

English 2010--We have assignments due maybe once a week. We have to submit them online by 5pm, so if I have to work then I try to submit the night before just so it's not late. I walked into class on Wednesday and as soon as I sat down, my teacher said, "Kelsey?" Um...yes? "Come here for a minute." Ohhhh shooooooot. "I was just looking at your assignment and it looks really great, it's exactly what I wanted. Do you mind if I show it as an example?" Psh, well, yeah, I mean, yeah of course! Can I just say that's never happened to me before??? It was never me. And it finally was. And I felt awesome.

Econ 1740 (which is Econ through history)--I have to work really hard in this class...to stay awake. My doodling skills are coming along quite nicely. Carli Bennett and I really enjoy laughing at our professor everytime he laughs at his own jokes (which is much too often). I'm trying to learn, I really am.

Intro to Theatre--As previously mentioned, my teach has an English accent. And a sweet goatee. It just makes that class all the more enjoyable. Hamlet did not shoot Polonius with an arrow...in case you wondered. He actually stabbed him through a curtain. That's what happens when you eavesdrop, children. I love learning more about things I love.

Book of Mormon--I love having prayers answered every time I go to that class. And I love that I don't have to play the piano every single day.

Public Speaking--Some people talk longer when they comment than when they actually give a speech. I don't know that much about government price regulation. I love watching my grandpa in such a different setting. He's pretty cool for a senior citizen :)

Intro to Visual Arts--I like looking at pictures. They're fabulous. I think keeping the lights on in that class would be a good idea for kids like me who don't get enough sleep. Just sayin. We had to draw a picture today--I didn't know creating art would be involved in this class. Shoot. At least it didn't look too horrible...

Chorale--my favorite thing three times a week. I love singing with these people. We get to sing at a meeting with President Monson at the end of October, just because we're that cool :) I love my alto friends.

Fun story from today-- Every Thursday is lunch at Institute, and I had a half-hour break before Chorale so I went. I sat by Dusty and Jacob until they had to leave for a class, then it was just me and some strangers. I started chatting with Steve, who also graduated from DHS. I mean, what are the odds?? Haha he asked if I knew Carlie Pitcher, who just happens to be my backyard neighbor and my distant cousin! (We can't ever remember if we're third or fourth cousins, so we just go with four-and-a-halfth :D ) It turns out that Steve is Carlie's cousin, making him my four-and-a-halfth cousin as well!! How great is that? We're totally friends now. My mom asked if he was hot. He's definitely good-looking, but knowing we're related throws things off just a bit. She said, "You could totally marry your third cousin. It's not even illegal." Well, thanks. But no thanks. That'd just be weird. But I'm glad I'm friends with Steve now. Maybe we'll even make it FB-official! Who knows?

I gotta shut the office down now, or else I'd share more stories! Maybe come visit me or something, then I'll have what appears to be a social life. Yes, I'd enjoy that very much :)

Sanka...you dead?

There's only one answer to that question.

Ya, mon.

This whole college, work two jobs, never sleep thing is kinda messin me up.

Now, I know what you're thinking. First of all, your mom goes to college. Second, two jobs? Yessir, two jobs. You'd know all about this if I'd occasionally take the time to blog. However, I already don't get enough sleep. And every minute counts.

And there went three minutes of homework time.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I'll be back soon. As soon as I wake up from my nap...should I ever happen to get one.

Quote(s) of the Day

"...there's something wrong with this yogurt."
"It's not yogurt. It's mayonnaise."
"Alright, there we go, then."
--Notting Hill

Me: "Looks like we're out of staples."
Brock:"Well, I guess I'll just have to go get some."
Me: [Quietly, so the whole grocery store wouldn't hear, but loud enough to be effective] "GET SOME!"
Good to know that the high school immaturity will always stick around, even if only a little bit.

Also, a poem for Shelly in the Deli, upon hearing the news about her passing of the State Bar exam...which didn't happen to be true.
"Congratulations to Shelly in the Deli, for your success on the test, we wish you the best!"
That one definitely went over the intercom....don't tell the boss, okay?

Day two...two times better than day one!

Oh, today is going so much better than yesterday! Thank goodness! I was afraid I'd have to drop out...or something.

So I drove today instead of taking the bus. I can't decide which one I like better. While I can sing really loud in my car, I was really terrified most of the time and felt like there was an accident just waiting to happen. Freakin maniacs, stay on yo side!! Tryin ta hit me! Be considadate! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtkU2ch0sRI) The bus, as previously mentioned, is super crowded, but at least I feel safe and save gas. Double bonus.

Thanks to my FREE INSTITUTE PARKING PASS (another bonus!), I got a way sweet parking spot and had time to hit the book store before my Public Speaking class. That teacher? He's crazy...and hilarious and entertaining...and maybe he's my grandpa? But whatever. It was so much fun, even just sitting and listening. I'm really excited for that class.

My visual arts class is in the Kimball Arts building, which looks super new and really cool! I'm an admirer of the art, I suppose, so I can dig it. My class is huge (120-somethin? That's a lot.) which is actually kind of fun. Mostly it means I can sit towards the back and text my SCFBFFFEWC Micaille who's partyin up at USU (Hey there girlfriend!). Oh! The girl I was sitting next to had chocolate. We should be friends?

Oh, and he let us out 35 minutes early. I'm kinda likin that business! I headed over and got myself a Jamba in the union building and have since been sitting on a cool chair, checking Facebook and blogging. Good times! Sure, I could be reading my Econ book...or my theatre book or my PS packet or my VA book. But. I have priorities. Social networking, that's what it's all about :)

Institute Chorale starts in about 20 minutes and I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it! I love singing, especially with large groups of people who are also musically inclined :)

I have a feeling that Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to be my favorites.

Yay for college?...whatever.

So you're sayin I have to go back tomorrow?

All summer long, people asked if I was ready for college. And my answer varied between "mostly" and "I have no idea." Now...I know. I most certainly am not ready.

Isn't public transportation such a great idea? Well, it would be, if it didn't mean I'd be five minutes late to my first class instead of five minutes early. But, you know, whatever.

Once upon a time, maybe two weeks ago, I got all gung-ho about school and made sure I had my schedule all written out and beautiful inside my new planner. So thanks for making me feel bad about being what I thought was prepared when I walked into a Macroeconomics class this morning. At least I was early for that one.

Dear kid I sat next to in Econ, you definitely owe me a piece of college-ruled notebook paper. I'm not gonna forget that one.

Dear Angie Witt, Lauren Loock and attractive Tanner: Thank you for being my Intro to Theatre class. I'm pretty sure we're gonna have tons of fun with our teacher with the sweet English accent.

Dear Tuesday (and Wednesday through Friday, for that matter...), please be better than Monday. I'd really appreciate that :)

Somewhat sincerely, Kelsey

PS--Dear Gramps, I'm so excited for your class tomorrow! I think it's going to be my favorite.

I'd Rather Not...

So...let's NOT talk about what I did this summer, I'm pretty sure you've heard too much of that.

Let's NOT talk about what I didn't do this summer. There's just too much.

Maybe...let's talk about what I learned this summer. Sounds much more profound.

You gotta live in the moment. Because if you spend 3 months waiting for college to start, come August 21st, you're going to find that summer went away much too soon.

Remember in Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy says "If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with!" Remember that?? Well. You don't have to go anywhere special to have a fabulous time. All that matters are the people that you're with. In fact, a lot of the greatest times DID happen in my backyard. So, just because I didn't go to Disneyland or New York or Paris (although I wouldn't mind traveling to any of those places...) doesn't mean that I didn't have an excellent time this summer.

Let's be real. Shawn Spencer is intensely attractive.

Tim McGraw knows what he's talking about. Living like you're dying is the greatest thing a person could possibly do. I spent this last week living like the summer was dying...because it was...and it was one of the greatest weeks of the entire summer. And I can't figure out why I don't do it every day of my life.

So new commitment. I want to live like I'm dying. I mean, if I happen to get in a car accident on my way to school one day this week or something (please no please no please no), I want to be able to say that my life was fabulous. I want to be able to say that before I die! Mostly I just don't want to die. But I just want to live life to the fullest. Especially in these, my college years (HA!). I really do think this is going to be fun.

PS--college does indeed start tomorrow. In case you weren't aware. And you know what? It's gonna be great! (If you haven't seen Winnie the Pooh, DO IT. Then start singing like Tigger. That's what I'm doing right now. In case you wondered...) Wanna hear (read) my schedule? I know you do.
MWF--English, Economics through History, Intro To Theatre, Institute--Book of Mormon (MW)
TTh--Public Speaking (whassup Grandpa Richardson? We'll party.), Intro to Visual Arts, Institute Choir (TThF)
Sounds like a party, right?? That's what I'm hopin for. Also, that I don't die.
In my spare hours, I can be found at Bowman's. Please come visit me. Help me maintain my sanity. Okay great.

Happy new school year, kids!
